    Nemesis® NXT®

    speedblast
One of the most exciting events to take place at this year's AirVenture has to be record attempting flights that Jon Sharp is going to perform in the Nemesis® NXT®. His attempts will take place during the showcase flights that are a part of each afternoon's airshow. Sharp says the record attempt is a fun event for spectators. "They don't get to see this type of event very often, and it's not like a normal air show act. They are actually seeing history being made before them."

The Nemesis® NXT® is the next generation aircraft evolved from the original Nemesis which now resides in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Washington Dulles International Airport. For more information about this special event, take a look at this article on the AirVenture website.

Oh, and look for a major announcement to come soon after AirVenture that involves Owen Hewitt and the Nemesis® NXT® team.

    Barrington Irving Completes RTW Solo!

Barrington Irving landed his Columbia 400 at Florida's Opa-Locka Airport Wednesday at 10:26 a.m., completing his round-the-world flight as -- unofficially -- the youngest person and first person of African descent to fly solo around the world. Irving, 23, launched from Florida in March, and flew up the East Coast and across the Atlantic. He stopped in Europe, the Middle East, India, Japan and Alaska, before heading back across the U.S. He covered about 25,600 miles in just over three months. Irving grew up in Miami but he was born in Jamaica, and Jamaican nationals greeted him at airports around the world. Upon landing Wednesday morning, he was greeted by a crowd that included local politicians and a steel-drum band. At launch, Irving had expected to make the trip in just 37 days, but weather caused multiple delays. He waited in Japan for two weeks for flyable weather across the North Pacific. He wrote in his blog that the delays gave him some time to explore local cultures. Irving is a graduate student at Florida Memorial University and works on Experience Aviation, a Saturday morning program he started to teach children about flying. He has said that he hopes his flight will inspire other young people to resist the negative influences of the streets and work toward their dreams. It's unclear whether Irving has set any "official" records. The National Aeronautic Association does not track aviation records by age or ethnicity. See Video!

FS Insider Emissive Texture and Virtual Cockpit Article

As part of our ongoing effort to better collaborate and communicate with the development community, we've asked for folks to submit articles related to the creation of add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The first of these articles, "FSX Emissive Textures and How They Relate to Virtual Cockpit Lighting" was submitted by Bill Leaming of Eaglesoft fame. Bill's paper has been through review by our internal team, and is intended to help other developers understand our virtual cockpit lighting technology.  We encourage you to read this article if you are at all interested in adding lighting effects to your virtual cockpit.

A big thanks to Bill for being the first to take on a role like this!  If you would like to submit a paper for publication, and believe you have the technical knowledge and writing skills to contribute a write up similar to this one, please send us your abstract and a brief bio of who you are and what your experience is with developing add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

    Eaglesoft Twin Comanche News!

For those who have have been following the Eaglesoft Twin Comanche Project in eager anticipation, our own Owen Hewitt has posted an in-sim screenshot of work on the Bendix/King KI 825 which is progressing well courtesy of our own Ed Wilson, one of Eaglesoft's talented gauge gurus. Yep, that's an actual screen capture of it going in FS. One interesting note regarding the KI 825 is that the rose has a unique feature called "ferris wheel" which causes the pilot to always see the heading indicators in an upright view as compared to traditional compass rose which is a simple rotating card! Owen has been very busy working on the Columbia 400 for FSX, and our Cessna Citation X 2.0 for FSX. Owen writes "I am placing panel lines on the exterior paint of the Piper Twin Comanche model."  When finished to a satisfactory level, Owen will be handing the textures over to our own Bob Hayes for the special tweaking only Bob can provide.
